On Friday evening, September 27, more than 100 donors, subscribers and friends attended what was possibly the biggest party in Courier history, our Sip and Socialize and 116th birthday celebration at the Garner House. The event included our staff and representatives from city hall, including Mayor Sal Medina, and from U.S. Representative Judy Chu’s and County Supervisor Kathryn Barger’s offices, all paying tribute to our local nonprofit newsroom. Ophelia’s Jump Productions Founding Artistic Director Beatrice Casagrán took home the sentimental favorite among our raffle prizes, former Courier Publisher the late Martin Weinberger’s typewriter. The event also brought in more than $1,000 to help the newsroom. Thank you, Claremont, for showing your support. We plan on sticking around another 116 years. Courier photos/by Andrew Alonzo.
