General election voter reminders

With the general election approaching, voters are reminded to check their registration status or register to vote at lavote.gov.

Monday, October 21 is the last day to register to vote and still receive a vote-by-mail ballot in time for the November 5 general election. Voters can also go to a Los Angeles County vote center for same-day registration and to vote provisionally.

Depending on one’s Claremont address, voters will decide who will represent districts 1 and 5 on the Claremont City Council, and who will replace Bob Fass as the Claremont Unified School District Board of Education Trustee Area 5 representative. Kathy Archer is running unopposed for the Claremont Unified School District Board of Education Trustee Area 2 seat.

Voters can drop off a mail-in ballot, no postage necessary, at the post office at 140 Harvard Ave., Claremont, more locations can be found at the United States Postal Service site. Such ballots can also be dropped off at L.A. County vote-by-mail drop box locations. Mailed ballots must be postmarked by Election Day.

Ballot drop boxes in Claremont opened October 3 at the Claremont Helen Renwick Library, 208 N. Harvard Ave., and the Alexander Hughes Community Center, 1700 Danbury Rd.

An in-person voting center at Granite Creek Community Church, 1580 N. Claremont Blvd., will open on Saturday, October 26. Additional centers at the Claremont Unified School District’s Richard S. Kirkendall Education Center, 170 W. San Jose Ave., and Condit Elementary School, 1750 N. Mountain Ave., will open on Saturday, November 2. Each will remain from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through Monday, November 4. Vote centers countywide will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.
