Final Gold Line extension funding approved
On November 14, the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority ratified a $798 million funding agreement amendment put forth by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority last month that would effectively fund the remaining 3.2-mile, two-station (Claremont and Montclair) construction project of the Metro A Line extension project. A majority of the 3.2-mile project’s funding comes from California Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program grants.
Combined with San Bernardino County Transportation Authority’s $80 million of state and local funding for the San Bernardino County portion, the project will bridge Pomona, Claremont and Montclair, as well as Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties, via light rail.
The vote comes two weeks after the Metro Board approved the funding amendment at its Halloween meeting.
“The Construction Authority remains on schedule to award the design-build contract for the 3.2-mile, two-station final project segment in the spring,” Construction Authority Chief Executive Officer Habib Balian wrote in an email. “Finally, the Authority is just seven weeks from reaching substantial completion on the 9.1-mile, four-station Glendora to Pomona project. One of the final tasks at the stations will be installation of the public artworks.”
