Claremont Symphony Orchestra in concert December 1
Claremont Symphony Orchestra’s 72nd season continues with a free and open to the public 3:30 p.m. Sunday, December 1 program highlighting the works of Giuseppe Verdi, Franz Doppler, Richard Wagner, and Felix Mendelssohn at Pomona College’s Bridges Hall of Music, 150 E. Fourth St., Claremont.
The program will be led by guest conductor Alan Medak, co-founder and music director for the Vineyard Touring Opera Company, and feature soloist John Barcellona, Professor Emeritus of flute at California State University, Long Beach and a flutist with the Westwood Wind Quintet, the Caliendo Trio, and the Caliendo/Barcellona Duo.
Pieces to be performed include the overture to Verdi’s “La Forza del destino” opera, “Fantaisie pastorale hongroise” by Doppler, the overture to “Tannhäuser” by Wagner, and Mendelssohn’s “Symphony No. 3.”
