Ontario museum unveils two new exhibitions

The Ontario Museum of History and Art kicks off 2025 with “Mission Gráfica: Reflecting a Community in Print” and “Centered in Ink: Printmaking in the Inland Empire,” on Thursday, January 9 at 225 S. Euclid Ave. A free and open to the public reception is set for 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, January 11. Both exhibits will be up through March 9.

“Mission Gráfica: Reflecting a Community in Print” was developed in partnership with the San Francisco Public Library and features screenprints from San Francisco community print center Mission Gráfica. The exhibition, based on a book of the same name, features emerging artists and well-known icons.

“The exhibition will explore themes of US Imperialism, gender inequality and women’s empowerment, cultural celebrations, Indigenous America, and more, many of which continue to resonate today,” according to a news release.

“Centered in Ink: Printmaking in the Inland Empire,” features Inland Empire printmakers and screen printers Adam Aguilar, Micah Amaro, Kenia Cruz, Cesar Garcia, Stephanie Lagos, Eduardo Raul Muñoz-Villagaña, Sarah Vazquez, and others. “The artists delve into thought-provoking themes such as identity, activism, and environmental awareness, using their printmaking practices to create powerful visual statements,” a news release read.

“These exhibitions invite audiences to explore the unique narratives embedded in each artwork and witness the profound impact that these creative expressions have on our shared community,” wrote Samantha Herrera, OMHA curator of exhibits, in a statement. “Visitors will encounter a rich tapestry of artistic styles and techniques in this captivating display, each piece brimming with intention and meaning. Come be inspired by the innovative visions and heartfelt messages that these talented artists bring to life through their prints!”

Admission is free. The museum is open noon to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
