CPD arrests suspect in multiple commercial burglaries

The Claremont Police Department announced Saturday that it had arrested 31-year-old Covina resident Hector Bernal, who is alleged to have committed a series nighttime commercial burglaries between January 2 and January 4.

Police say Bernal hit six businesses over three days, including four in the 800-900 block of W. Foothill Boulevard, and two in the 700 block of S. Indian Hill Boulevard.

Police identified Bernal as a potential suspect in the burglaries on Saturday. Following a tip, CPD detectives arrested Bernal and Alexis Tinoco, 28, of Upland, at the DoubleTree by Hilton, 555 W. Foothill Blvd., at 12:50 p.m. as they exited the hotel. Bernal was charged with commercial burglary, grand theft, theft with priors, and possession of stolen property, all felonies. Tinoco was charged with felony possession of stolen property. Both suspects were booked at CPD. Bernal was held in front of his January 7 court appearance at Pomona Superior Court while Tinoco was released with a citation.

Police later obtained a search warrant for the duo’s hotel room, where they found “stolen property belonging to the Claremont victim’s related to the commercial burglaries which occurred within the last 48-hours,” according to a news release.
