Upcoming concerts at Bridges Hall of Music
Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra performs two free and open to the public concerts at 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday, January 26, at Pomona College’s Bridges Hall of Music, 150 E. Fourth St., Claremont.
The 2 p.m. show by the intermezzo and overture strings orchestras includes “Zampa” by Hérold, “Peer Gynt Suite No. 1” by Grieg, “Dance of Comedians” by Smetana, “Pomp and Circumstance Marches” by Elgar, “Children’s Dance” by Howard Hanson, and “Promenade” by Leroy Anderson.
At 7 p.m., the Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra will perform “La Gazza Ladra Overture” by Rossini, “Polyvtsian Dances” by Borodin, and “Symphony No. 9” by Dvorak. The evening’s soloist, Mason Soria, principal tuba of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, will perform the “Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra” by John Williams.

Claremont Symphony Orchestra’s annual free and open to the public concert for young people akes place at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, February 1 at Bridges Hall of Music. Winners of the Claremont Youth Symphony Orchestra 2024 Concerto Competition, pianist Leonardo Gonzalez, 14; cellist Mondy Gottesman, 14; and cellist Caleb van Brunt, 16, are the featured soloists.
The program includes the first movements of Mozart’s “Piano Concerto No. 23,” and “Cello Concerto” by Édouard Lalo, “Élégie Op. 24” by Fauré, “Tubby the Tuba” by George Kleinsinger, with a tuba solo from Victor Peña, and selections from “The Lion King.”
