California Botanic Garden, at 1500 N. College Ave., Claremont, will honor its late founder Susanna Bixby Bryant on her 145th birthday by giving away special themed postcards and member stickers and offering discounts at its nursery and poppy shop from Friday, April 11 through Sunday, April 13.
“Susanna Bixby Bryant founded the California Botanic Garden (formerly Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden) in 1927, nearly 100 years ago, after recognizing the increasing pressure exerted by development on California’s native plants and habitats,” a news release read. “Bryant set aside 200 acres of her Santa Ana Canyon Ranch as a native plant garden; the Garden was later relocated to Claremont to benefit from a partnership with the Claremont Colleges.”
Garden hours are from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission costs $5 to $15. CalBG members and children under 3 are free.
