Police Blotter: May 9, 2025

Monday, April 28

Claremont Police Department officers responded to call from the 400 block of west Base Line Road at 1:52 p.m. regarding a package theft. There they spoke with a 31-year-old Montclair man who had allegedly been captured in the act of taking mail on surveillance footage, and had subsequently been placed under private persons arrest by the caller. A search allegedly determined the man was in possession of packages that did not belong to him. He was arrested for petty theft and receiving stolen property, both misdemeanors, and petty theft with two prior convictions, a felony. He was transported to the Claremont jail, booked, and held for court. He pleaded not guilty during an April 30 arraignment at Pomona Superior Court and was transferred to Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles on May 1. He’s due back in Pomona Superior Court on May 19.

Tuesday, April 29

Claremont police responded to a 6:44 a.m. domestic violence call from the 500 block of Bucknell Avenue. Arriving officers spoke to the victim, who said they were assaulted by a 37-year-old Los Angeles man, whom they subsequently arrested for felony domestic violence. During the arrest he was allegedly found to be in possession of methamphetamine, adding misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance to his charge list. He was transported to CPD jail, booked, and held for court before later being released on bond.

 

Wednesday, April 30

Police stopped a 33-year-old Claremont man for moving violations at 4 a.m. near Padua Avenue and Base Line Road. After he allegedly refused to exit the vehicle police then forced him to do so. He refused field sobriety tests and was arrested for resisting arrest, DUI, and reckless driving, all misdemeanors. He was transported to CPD, booked, held for detox, and later released with a citation.

 

Thursday, May 1

Police were called to Stater Bros. Market, 1055 W. Foothill Blvd., at 10:04 a.m. on reports of a man brandishing a weapon and threatening an employee. Witnesses said the man walked into the store and was recognized by an employee for a previous theft. The employee then followed the man until he left the store. As the man was exiting, he allegedly pulled a knife on the employee and threatened them. The man then left the area. Arriving officers located the man nearby, and said a search of the 22-year-old Montclair resident turned up a knife and a methamphetamine pipe. He was arrested for misdemeanor possession of a drug paraphernalia and exhibiting a deadly weapon other than a firearm, misdemeanors, and felony criminal threats. He was then booked at CPD jail and held for court. On May 5, he was transferred to the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles and later arraigned at Pomona Superior Court, where he did not enter a plea.

During a 12:04 p.m. call for service at Waba Grill, 440 Auto Center Dr., police spoke with a 39-year-old Los Angeles man who a records check revealed was on parole. Officers said he displayed symptoms of controlled substance impairment, and he was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance and for the felony parole violation. He was transported to CPD, where a search allegedly turned up narcotics, adding a felony charge of bringing drugs into a jail. He received a citation for the drug charges before being transferred to West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga to face a judge on the parole violation.

 

Saturday, May 3

Police responded to an 8:43 p.m. call for service at Subway, 350 S. Indian Hill Blvd., regarding a man striking the shop’s windows. Officers spoke with the 34-year-old Pomona resident and after a search allegedly turned up methamphetamine and a pipe, arrested him for misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported to CPD, booked, and released with a citation.
