Police Blotter: July 25, 2025

Monday, July 14
Claremont Police Department officers responded to city hall, 207 N. Harvard Ave., following an 8:53 p.m. call about a robbery nearby. Arriving officers spoke with a 33-year-old Pomona man who matched the description and a records check revealed misdemeanor and a felony parole violation warrants. The reporting party told police the man threatened them, and CPD added felony criminal threats to his charge list. He was arrested, transported to CPD, booked, and later moved to the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles, where he was held for court. He was released after a July 15 appearance at Pomona Superior Court.
Tuesday, July 15
Police stopped a car for a moving violation at 12:55 a.m. near Towne Avenue and Arrow Highway and spoke with the driver, a 46-year-old Rancho Cucamonga man. After field sobriety tests and a records check that revealed a suspended license and previous DUI convictions, he was arrested for felony DUI with priors and for misdemeanor driving on a suspended license. Officers then investigated his car for a functioning ignition interlock device, an accessory that requires a breath sample before the ignition system will start. Officers reported the man had found an alternative way to start his car, leading to an additional misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle not equipped with a functioning ignition interlock device. He was arrested, transported to CPD, booked, and held for detoxification and court.
Police conducted a 2:49 p.m. welfare check on a Pomona man, 30, in front of Ampm, 701 E. Foothill Blvd. A records check showed a misdemeanor CPD warrant, and he was arrested, transported to CPD, booked, and released with a citation to appear in court.
Wednesday, July 16
Claremont police responded to Rancho San Jose Park, 666 W. San Jose Ave., at 3:33 p.m. on reports of suspicious people. Arriving officers spoke to a 38-year-old homeless man and a records check found three outstanding felony charges — failure to register as a sex offender, penal code 290.018 (B); failure to register within five days of release from incarceration, penal code 290.015; and transient failure to provide a 30-day residence update, penal code 290.011 (A) — and a misdemeanor San Bernardino County warrant. Police said the man attempted to flee during the interaction but was quickly detained. He was subsequently arrested on the felony charges and warrant, and for misdemeanor resisting, delaying, or obstructing an officer. He was transported to CPD, booked, and transported to the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles, where he was held for court. He pleaded not guilty at Pomona Superior Court on July 18. At press time he remained in custody at Twin Towers Correctional Facility in LA in front of a September 3 court date.
Friday, July 18
Claremont police officers reportedly saw a car speeding at 11:36 a.m. and stopped it near Belmont Abbey Lane and Padua Avenue. A records check of the driver, a 56-year-old Pomona man, showed a suspended license due to a previous DUI conviction, and a misdemeanor LA County warrant. Police checked his car for a functioning ignition interlock device and did not find one, adding misdemeanor operating a vehicle not equipped with a functioning ignition interlock device to his charge list. He was arrested and transported to the Claremont jail, where he was booked and released with a citation.
At 11:27 p.m., officers responded to a domestic violence call from Motel 6, 840 S. Indian Hill Blvd., and spoke with a couple in a dating relationship. Police determined a 43-year-old Pomona man was the aggressor and arrested him for felony domestic violence. He was transported to the CPD jail where he was booked and held for court. He was released Tuesday and is due back at Pomona Superior Court September 25.
Saturday, July 19
Police were called for a 9:25 p.m. welfare check on a 46-year-old Claremont man at a residence in the 1000 block of Northwestern Drive. Arriving officers spoke with the man, who informed them he did not want their help. As police were leaving, they report the man came out of the residence armed with a rifle and pointed it at officers. No shots were fired. He then retreated back into his home, and other agencies including La Verne PD arrived to assist. Police detained him at 11:22 p.m. without further incident, and reportedly found the rifle inside the home. A records check found previous felony convictions, and he was arrested on felony charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and assault on a police officer with a firearm, and for misdemeanor resisting, delaying or obstructing a police officer. He was booked at CPD then transported to the Inmate Reception Center in LA, where he was held for court. He was due to appear in Pomona Superior Court after press time Thursday.
