Three arrested in Claremont commercial burglary
Claremont police made three arrests Wednesday in connection with a burglary of Aurora Modern Healing Therapies, 865 W. Foothill Blvd.
Police responded to the location at 7 a.m. Wednesday. Surveillance video showed three suspects entered the business through an unsecured roof hatch about 12:30 a.m. before later fleeing with a number of electronic items.
Police were later informed by the victim that some of the devices had been activated near Foothill Boulevard and Sumner Avenue in Pomona. Officers went to the location and questioned 29-year-old San Bernardino resident Francisco Martinez and Marina Lopez, 18, of Pomona. A search of their belongings allegedly turned up the stolen property and illegal drugs, and Martinez was arrested for felony burglary, and for misdemeanor charges of receiving stolen property and possession of a controlled substance. Lopez was arrested for misdemeanor receiving stolen property. They were taken to the Claremont jail, booked, and released with a citation.
Hours later, police were told more devices had been activated and tracking data showed the items near Towne and Vinton avenues in Pomona, and officers responded to the location.
“In a panic, one of the subjects swallowed fentanyl,” according to a CPD statement. “LA County Fire arrived, provided medical care and transported the subject to PVHMC [Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center]. While providing medical attention to the one subject, officers recognized another suspect they saw on [surveillance] cameras commit the burglary earlier that morning. The suspect was detained and found to be in possession of stolen property.”
That suspect, 33-year-old Pomona resident Gerardo Acosta, was arrested for felony burglary and misdemeanor receiving stolen property, transported to CPD, booked, and released with a citation.
