High school sports round up

Claremont High School

Football (6-0)

Claremont continued its unbeaten streak with a 28-24 comeback win at Los Osos on October 3 to open Sierra League play. The Wolfpack have handled La Salle, 56-7, Kaiser, 37-0, Alta Loma, 21-13, Diamond Bar, 50-42, and Capistrano Valley Chirstian, 17-12, since the season began August 22.

Claremont is at Charter Oak at 7 p.m. Friday.

 

Flag football (8-5)

Claremont lost Tuesday at Ayala High School, 26-6. Prior, it lost to Glendora, 32-7, and Bonita, 27-13. It beat St. Lucy’s Priory, 61-13; Ayala, 12-9; Chatsworth, 50-0; and Glendora, 14-13. The team caps the regular season October 14 at home against Bonita at 6 p.m.

Cross-country

Results from the September 27 Chaffey XC Invitational: With 44 points, Claremont and Diamond Bar tied for first in the senior girls wave. The senior boys took 10th with 219 points. Full results are at athletic.net.

Results from the September 24 Palomares League Preview: The boys and girls varsity teams placed first. The boysscored 37 points, the girls 25.

Results from the September 19-20 Woodbridge Classic at Great Park: Claremont’s girls team took sixth out of 26 teams in the three-mile junior/senior gold division, scoring 224. Full results are at athletic.net.

Results from the September 13 Iolani XC Invite in Waipahu, Hawaii: the Claremont girls team won the Greg Char Championship with 32 points. Isla Bulmer, Camila Trevino-Davila and Grace Smith led the Pack, finishing second, third and fourth respectively. Joy Cheng and Maham Ali finished 11th and 14th.  With 71 points in the Jim Rubasch Championship, the boys placed second out of 21 teams. Senior Lyle Mideiros finished first at 15:31.

The teams are back in action October 10-11 for the Clovis Invitational at Woodward Park in Fresno.

Girls golf (8-4)

The Pack are on a three match win streak after Tuesday’s 218-241 victory over Glendora and back-to-back wins over Bonita, 226-267, on October 2 and 227-264 on September 30.

Claremont fell against Walnut, twice by a score of 215-222 on September 25 and September 23. CHS also lost twice against Diamond Bar, 207-230 on September 18 and 173-208 on September 16. The Pack beat Rancho Cucamonga, 223-278 on September 11; Glendora, 231-255, on September 9, and Rancho Cucamonga, 220-245, on September 4.

Claremont hosts Ayala at 2:30 p.m. October 14 at Marshall Canyon.

Girls tennis (6-2)

Claremont hosted Ayala Tuesday and won, 78-68. The team lost to Bonita, 13-5, September 30, the trounced Glendora, 16-2 on October 2. Previously the Wolfpack beat Etiwanda, 16-2, Alta Loma, 14-4, Diamond Bar, 11-7, and Walnut, 17-1. Although the team fell to Bonita, 13-5, on September 30, it responded with a 16-2 win over Glendora October 2. Claremont lost to Los Osos September 10. The Pack were at Diamond Bar after press time Thursday. The Wolfpack is at Walnut at 3:30 p.m. October 14.

 

Girls volleyball (13-8)

Claremont beat Glendora, 3-2, on Wednesday. On Monday, the team beat Bonita, 3-1, which followed an October 1 loss at Walnut, 3-0. The team lost just once in September, to Diamond Bar, 3-0 on September 10, and beat Claremont Diamond Bar, Ayala, Glendora, Bonita, Walnut, Montclair, and St. Lucy’s. The Pack have a tournament at Garden Grove on Saturday, October 11. The regular season wraps at 5:30 p.m. October 13 at Ayala.

Boys water polo (11-11)

Claremont lost to Ayala, 17-16, on Wednesday, following Monday’s 12-5 home loss to Glendora.

The Pack beat Muir, 14-10, on October 3, lost to Bonita, 14-7, October 1, and to Walnut, 11-7, September 29. Previous to that, Claremont beat Arlington, Segerstrom, and Estancia, lost to Tesoro, beat Diamond Bar, lost to Schurr and Los Osos, and defeated Warren. At a September 12-13 tournament in Anaheim, Claremont lost to Chaparral before besting beat Colony, Temescal Canyon, and Anaheim. On September 11, Troy beat CHS, 15-7. Claremont bested Chino, 22-5, on September 9.

CHS are at Estancia for tournament at 2 p.m. Friday, October 10 and 8 a.m. October 11.

 

The Webb Schools

Football (4-2)

Webb lost at home to Trinity Classical Academy, 42-26 on October 2, and at Riverside Prep, 18-8, September 26. Previously the Gauls beat Channel Islands, 66-7, Loara, 35-14, and Hamilton, 50-14. Webb returns to action at 7 p.m. Friday, October 17 at Temecula Prep.

Cross-country

Results from the September 9 San Joaquin League cluster in Avalon: Webb’s varsity boys team placed fourth with 99 points, the girls sixth with 132. Results from the September 27 Bellarmine/Sacred Heart Invitational and September 19-20 Woodbridge Classic are at athletic.net. The teams’ next meet is at 1 p.m. October 16 at home.

Girls golf (7-1)

Following a 234-240 September 8 loss to Fairmont Prep, Webb have been red hot, beating Samueli Academy twice, Fairmont Prep, Tarbut V’ Torah, Avalon, and Chaffey. The team hosted Pacifica Christian after press time Thursday at Marshall Canyon Golf Course before going to Costa Mesa Golf Course Monday, October 13 for a 3:30 p.m. game against Pacifica Christian. A 3 p.m. home contest with Avalon is set for October 14.

Girls tennis (7-6)

Webb fell to Pacifica Christian, 15-3, September 30. Previously, the Gauls lost to Westridge, beat Western Christian, Capistrano Valley Christian, lost to Fairmont Prep, beat Covina, Tarbut V’ Torah, and Wilson, and lost to Alta Loma, Mark Keppel, and San Dimas. The Gauls hosted Capistrano Valley Christian after press time Thursday, and are at Western Christian October 14, then host Pacifica Christian October 16.

Girls volleyball (14-2)

The Gauls have dropped only two sets in its last four matches while beating Newport Christian, 3-0, October 2, San Gabriel Academy, 3-2, September 29; Calvary Chapel, 3-0, September 25,  and Magnolia Science Academy on September 22. Webb defeated Perris and Cristo Rey Orange County, then lost to Westridge and Arrowhead Christian at a September 20 tournament at for its only losses of the season.

The girls hosted San Gabriel Academy after press time Thursday and wrap the regular season at 5 p.m. October 14 at Calvary Chapel.

Boys water polo (14-8)

Webb recorded recent wins over Sierra Vista, 17-12, October 3, and Chaffey, 12-6, September 30. At the Saddleback tournament, Webb lost to Estancia, beat West Torrance, lost to El Modena, and bested Sunny Hills. Previously, the Gauls lost to Glendora and Edgewood, beat Indian Springs, Pacifica, San Gorgonio, Indian Springs, Montclair, and Arroyo Valley, lost to Aquinas, and beat Baldwin Park and Whittier. Webb is in Oceanside Friday and Saturday for a tournament.
