Monday, October 13
Claremont Police Department officers stopped a car for vehicle code violations at Towne Avenue and Briarcroft Road at 5:43 p.m. After field sobriety tests the driver, a 55-year-old Grand Terrace man, was arrested for misdemeanor DUI. The man allegedly gave police consent to search his car and told officers he had a handgun inside. Police said the gun was registered to someone else and added misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle to the man’s charge list. He was transported to the Claremont jail, booked, held for detoxification, and later released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.
Tuesday, October 14
At 10:27 a.m., police pulled a car over near Wharton Drive and Cambridge Avenue following reports that the driver was using narcotics at the wheel. Police spoke with the driver and found no signs of impairment. A records check, however, showed the driver, a 35-year-old Burbank woman, had a suspended license, leading to her arrest for the misdemeanor. She was transported to CPD, booked, and released with a citation.
Wednesday, October 15
Police responded to Norms, 807 S. Indian Hill Blvd., following 6:16 p.m. calls about a person being kicked out of a car. Officers spoke with a Palmdale woman, 36, who appeared intoxicated and was subsequently detained. Police said she initially lied about her name for a records check, but eventually gave her real name. She was arrested for disorderly conduct and for resisting, delaying, or obstructing a peace officer, misdemeanors, transported to the Claremont jail, booked, and released with a citation.
Police responded to reports of a trespasser at Monarch Terrace Apartments, 550 Bucknell Ave., at 11:40 p.m. They questioned a 36-year-old La Puente man there and a records check showed he was on post-release community supervision. A search of his belongings allegedly yielded methamphetamine, leading to his arrest for misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. He was transported to and booked at CPD and released with a citation.
Friday, October 17
Police responded to Our Lady of the Assumption, 435 Berkeley Ave., at 7:37 a.m. after reports of two males saying inappropriate things outside the church. In a statement, OLA noted the men appeared to be First Amendment auditors. No arrests were reported.
A woman called police at 2:11 p.m. to report she was the victim of fraud. She told police that someone tricked her into withdrawing money and leaving it on her porch in the 500 block of W. Sixth Street. Police said the suspect was a male last seen with black hat and face covering. The investigation is ongoing.
Claremont police stopped a car for vehicle code violations at Mills Avenue and Foothill Boulevard at 4:11 p.m. A records check of the driver, a 54-year-old Fontana man, showed a suspended license. Police also said he appeared intoxicated and, after field sobriety tests, arrested him for DUI and driving on a suspended license, misdemeanors. A search of his car allegedly yielded drugs, cash and evidence of narcotics for sale. Police additionally charged the man with felony possession for sale of controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. He was transported to the Claremont jail, booked, held for detoxification, and later released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.
Saturday, October 18
Police were called to Laemmle Claremont 5 Theatre, 450 W. Second St., at 9:20 a.m. about reports of a burglary. Police said sometime between 3:18 and 5:41 a.m. October 18, a man with gloves, a black sweatshirt, and blue jeans, and a woman wearing gloves, a green shirt and black pants, accessed the theater and stole $1,700 from the safe in the manager’s office. It’s unclear how they entered the theater. The investigation is ongoing.
Officers went to a residence in the 600 block of Cinderella Drive at 9:31 p.m. after an elderly person reported being pushed by another person. There, police spoke with the victim and a 24-year-old Claremont man who was allegedly intoxicated and refused to cooperate with police. Police determined elder abuse had occurred and arrested the man for elder abuse, public intoxication, and resisting, delaying, or obstructing a peace officer, misdemeanors. He was transported to the Claremont jail, booked, and released with a citation.
