Obituary: Lance Leo Kaggie
Grandfather, Army veteran, family man
Lance Leo Kaggie, 83, of Claremont, died peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends, on Tuesday, January 27.
Born on October 2, 1942, in Burley, Idaho, “Lance lived a life grounded in love, loyalty, and strength,” his family shared. “He was a loving son, an amazing husband, a devoted father, a cherished brother, a proud grandfather, and a fun, unforgettable uncle known for his exciting stories and warm presence.”
Lance proudly served and was an honored U.S. Army veteran. He later became the owner and operator of Upland Dental Lab, “where his strong work ethic and dedication were evident to all who knew him,” his family said. “Known for his strength, determination, and warrior mentality, Lance approached life with courage and resilience. Yet at his core, he was a man who deeply valued time spent with family and friends.”
He found joy in fishing, gardening, hiking, sharing a beer with his buddies, attending events to support loved ones, and listening to a great band.
“Some of his favorite moments were the simple ones — sitting for hours talking while listening to a baseball game, catching up with family, taking phone calls from Matthew filled with stories of life and new adventures, and heading out with Joyce to watch Joey and Stevilyn’s water polo games, where he became a devoted fan,” his family said. “He treasured visits from loved ones and long drives with Joyce to attend celebrations, events, or simply explore local mountains and beaches together, enjoying the scenery and fresh air side by side.”
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Joyce; children, Lisa (John) Filpi and Jason (Amber) Kaggie; grandson, Matthew (Paige) Filpi; brother Bruce (Chris) Kaggie; sister-in-law, Joette Kippes; and nephews and nieces Lynette (Steven) Griffin, Joseph Griffin, Stevilyn Griffin, Laurel (Jeff) Widdison, Beth (Scott) Adams, Karvin Kuffer, Arnene (Allen) Lee, Ketette (Kenneth) Turner, and Rex Kuffer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Alice Kaggie; and his sister, Karen (Bannie) Kuffer.
“Lance will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his strength, his stories, and the love he shared with his family and friends,” his family said.
A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 19 at Stone Funeral Home, 355 E. Ninth St., Upland, CA 91786.
