Where am I?

Photo/by K.M. Williamson

Congratulations to Mo Dyson, one of 13 readers who correctly identified last week’s “Where am I?” as Pomona College’s red sandstone cornerstone, placed in 1888 at the school’s intended location at Piedmont Mesa, near the mouth of Live Oak Canyon. The stone was moved to Pomona College’s new home in 1895. “In secret the class [of 1895] polished the stone, trimmed its edges, and prepared it for erection on a pedestal of seven stones, one for each member of the class,” Wilson Lyon wrote in “The History of Pomona College, 1897-1969.” Mo is now entered into the year-end drawing for a one-year subscription to everyone’s favorite award-winning local newspaper, the Claremont Courier. So, “Where am I” this week? Email your answer, full name, and city of residence — and suggestions for future mystery photos — to contest@claremont-courier.com for your chance to win.
