67th Claremont Little League season is underway

Some 493 players from 41 Claremont Little League teams, more than 200 volunteer coaches, and scores of family members and caregivers gathered under brilliant blue skies February 21 at College Park to kick off the league’s 67th season.

Claremont Mayor Jennifer Stark was among the speakers at Claremont Little League’s February 21 opening day ceremony at College Park.

The ceremony was led by CLL President Scott Smith and included the parade of teams, bee mascot Maverick from the LA Dodgers’ new minor league affiliate the Ontario Tower Buzzers, and players beginning their final year of Little League gathering at the pitcher’s mound to recite the league pledge one last time. The annual first pitches followed, delivered by longtime snack bar managers Kim and Kevin Patterson. Lucca Avilez-Echeverria played the The Star-Spangled Banner, raffle winners were announced, and Claremont Mayor Jennifer Stark and Tower Buzzers General Manager Allan Benavides delivered remarks. Claremont Vice Mayor Ed Reece, Council member Corey Calaycay, City Manager Adam Pirrie, and Community Services Director Jeremy Swan were also in attendance.
