A festive Fourth of July, in and around Claremont

Here is a rundown of the City of Claremont’s and surrounding cities’ plans for the Fourth of July.
As always, the Kiwanis Club of Claremont will serve a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m.
The children’s 1K run/walk begins at 7:30 a.m. Claremont Sunrise Rotary’s Freedom 5K gets underway at 8 a.m., with the starting and finishing lines for both at Memorial Park, 840 N. Indian Hill Blvd. The 5K race fee is $49, the children’s 1K, $28. Sign up at runsignup.com/races, search “Claremont Freedom 5K.”
The flag raising ceremony and remarks start at 10 a.m. at Memorial Park, followed by a festival which includes the T. Willard Hunter Speakers Corner from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m., honoree recognition at noon, and the parade at 1 p.m. This year’s grand marshals are Bob Fagg and Sonja Stump. Tom Shelley is the honored citizen and AgingNext the honored community group.
The fireworks show begins at 9 p.m. at Pomona College’s Strehle Track, 522 N. Mills Ave. Gates open at 6:30 with Pop Vinyl performing from 6:45 to 8:45. The Kiwanis Club will serve refreshments. Tickets, $10, are available at the Alexander Hughes Community Center, 1700 Danbury Rd., or at claremontca.gov/4th-of-july.
La Verne’s Independence Day festivities start with a 6:30 a.m., $8 breakfast at La Verne Methodist Church, 3205 D St., sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 411.
The parade gets underway at 10 a.m. and starts at the corner of 10th and D streets. A detailed route is at cityoflaverne.org. This year’s grand marshals include firefighters from the La Verne Fire Department and other local agencies who live in the city and worked on the Bridge, Eaton, and Pacific Palisades fires.
Other events include the city’s skate park, at 3102 D St., open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.; free family swimming at the La Verne Aquatics Center, 3175 Bolling Ave., from noon to 4 p.m.; a 4 to 8 p.m. Pacific island grill dinner, $12-$20, at Methodist Church; and a 7 p.m. concert featuring The Silverados at Bonita High School, 3102 D St., followed by fireworks at about 9 p.m. Children 4 and under are free, all else are $20. Doors open at 4 p.m. for “Kaboom!” at Fairplex, 1101 W. McKinley Ave., with monster trucks, motocross, live entertainment, and a fireworks show about 9:15 p.m. Tickets, $14-$42, and information are at fairplex.com/kaboom. Children under age 2 do not need a ticket if they sit on a paying guest’s lap. Parking is $25.
The parade begins at 9 a.m. at Euclid Avenue and Fourth Street. The all-states picnic runs from 9:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Ontario Town Square, 224 N. Euclid Ave. The city’s free and open to the public fireworks show, begins at 9 p.m. at Westwind Park, 2455 E. Riverside Dr. Gates open at 5. More info is at ontarioca.gov.
Rancho Cucamonga’s fireworks spectacular at the Epicenter Sports Complex, 8408 Rochester Ave., gets underway about 9 p.m. Tickets are $15, $125 for a table of four, at cityofrc.us/events. Gates open at 6, with live entertainment at 6:30. Parking opens at 5:30.
Upland’s light up the night fireworks spectacular opens at 5 p.m. at Cable Airport, 1749 W. 13th St. It features an airplane display and live entertainment from Pop Vision at 5:15. Fireworks begin about 9.
Presale tickets are $15 at eventbrite.com, search “light up the night,” $20 after July 1. Tickets are also available at Magnolia Recreation Center, 651 W. 15th St.; Gibson Senior Center, 250 N. Third Ave.; Landecena Community Building, 1325 San Bernardino Rd.; and Upland City Hall, 460 N. Euclid Ave. Tickets will not be available at Cable Airport on July 4.
