Azusa resident Nixon Korir, 27, was the overall and men’s winner with a time of 15:11, with Claremont’s Jie Yi Denise Chen, 19, the top women’s finisher at 18:03.
“It was a good race, perfect conditions like a beautiful morning, beautiful clouds,” Korir said. “We went through the first mile like really fast. And I just keep [saying] ‘Lock in, lock in’ the whole way. And then when we get to the uphill, I made my move and then just held on.”
Rounding out the top three for the men were 20-year-old Derek Ynfante of West Covina at 15:31, and Claremont’s A.J. Reyes, 25, at 15:43.
Thirty-three year-old Michalina Fili of Baltimore finished second among the women competitors at 18:27, and Rancho Cucamonga 15-year-old Emily Bell was third at 18:37.
