Some two dozen community members got their steps and questions in November 22 at a hike with Claremont Mayor Corey Calaycay.

The two-mile trek began and ended at Higginbotham Park, with the route spanning east and west along Thomspon Creek Trail.

It was the second year for the unique event. Last year, then Mayor and current Council member Sal Medina took the same hike with constituents.

“I want to credit Sal Medina, my colleague. He started this event,” Calaycay said. “And I know he said it was important to him that we continue this year after year, to showcase of course our parks and our trails and to encourage people to come live active lives.”

Mike DeWees attended both hikes and was among the residents who spoke with Calaycay at this year’s event.

“I appreciate that the mayor is continuing the tradition of these hikes and [I] really enjoy getting together with the community and interacting with our elected officials,” DeWees said.
