Claremont Graduate University’s Board of Trustees recently named Executive Vice President and Provost Michelle Blighas its interim president.

Bligh will be CGU’s second interim president in less than a year when she takes the reins from current interim PresidentTim Kirley on March 1. Kirley succeeded former CGU President Len Jessup, who resigned in March 2024 after six years on the job.

“The leadership team welcomed and supported me every step,” Kirley wrote in a statement. “I am thrilled Provost Bligh will now bring her academic expertise to the forefront of our transition.”

The university’s board of trustees will begin the process of finding a permanent president on February 3.

Bligh has been with CGU since 2002. She holds “a deep understanding of the university’s culture, strengths, and challenges, having been a faculty member, dean, and provost,” according to a statement from the school.

Bligh will remain in the position until the board selects a permanent president, according to Director of Alumni Engagement and Publicity John Tucker.
