City lights Menorah for Hanukkah’s sixth day

The City of Trees continued a local Hanukkah tradition Monday, December 30 with the lighting of a nearly 10-foot menorah outside council chambers. In recognition of the Jewish holiday’s sixth day, Jacob Haiavy, a Rancho Cucamonga-based cosmetic surgeon, ignited six wicks at the event organized by Chabad of the Inland Empire.

In attendance were over 30 community members including Rabbi Sholom Harlig, director of the Chabad of the Inland Empire, Claremont Mayor Corey Calaycay, City Manager Adam Pirrie, Recreation and Human Services Department Director Melissa Vollaro, and Michael Montoya, the pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

Festivities included a children’s activity table, a raffle, latkes and jelly donut hors d’oeuvres, and a distribution of dreidels.
