Claremont Graduate University’s 98th commencement kicks off at 8 a.m. at Mudd Quadrangle, 800 N. Dartmouth Ave.
This year’s honorary degree recipient and keynote speaker is author Kate Darling, a research scientist at MIT’s Media Lab and head of Boston Dynamics AI Institute’s ethics and society research team. The alumni speaker is CGU Alumni Association Board Secretary Joleen Archibald, CEO of Leadership Archways and Snow to Surf Alliance. The student speaker is Kendall Hutchison Acker, a Canadian scholar graduating with a master’s degree in American history and museum studies. Her thesis is “The Price Tag of a 5-Star Culture: Cultural Performance and the Politics of Luxury in Oʻahu Hotels.” Full biographies are at cgu.edu.

Pitzer College’s 61st commencement at Stephen L. Glass Commencement Plaza, 1050 N. Mills Ave., takes place at 10 a.m.
This year’s keynote speaker is former NFL linebacker and defensive back Shaquem Griffin, who was the league’s first one-handed player.
Tickets are not required for the event and seating is open. Guests who need additional assistance can be dropped off at the Sandborn parking lot, at the corner of N. Mills Avenue and E. Ninth Street.

Claremont McKenna College’s 77th commencement ceremony at Pritzlaff Field, 500 E. Ninth St., takes place at 2 p.m.
The graduation speaker is Indian-born British and American novelist Salman Rushdie, a choice that has drawn criticism from some who say Rushdie has made anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian statements.
Tickets are not required, but all guests must wear a commencement wristband to enter the venue. The ceremony will be livestreamed at cmc.edu and a schedule of events can be found at cmc.edu/commencement.
Keck Graduate Institute celebrates its graduating students at 2 p.m. ticketed event at Gardiner W. Spring Auditorium, 1245 N. Euclid Ave., Ontario. Parking is available at Chaffey High School and on public streets. It will be livestreamed at kgi.edu/commencement.
John Carpten, City of Hope’s chief scientific officer and director of the comprehensive cancer center and Beckman Research Institute, will deliver the keynote address.
Graduates can request up to four tickets and must send the registration link directly to those attending. Guests must present a QR-coded ticket. More info is at kgi.edu/commencement.
Scripps College’s 95th commencement ceremony begins at 5 p.m. on Elm Tree Lawn, 385 E. Ninth St.
Emmy-nominated filmmaker, actress, and cultural worker Nava Mau, who graduated from Pomona College in 2014 with a bachelor’s in linguistics and cognitive science, will deliver the commencement address.

Harvey Mudd College’s 67th commencement begins at 1:30 p.m. at Mudd Quadrangle, 800 N. Dartmouth Ave. Reshma Saujani, founder of Girls Who Code and Moms First Inc., will deliver the keynote address. The ceremony is non-ticketed with open seating. A livestream and schedule of events are at hmc.edu/commencement.
Pomona College’s 132nd commencement begins at 10 a.m. at Marston Quadrangle, west of Bridges Auditorium at 333 N. College Way, Sunday, May 18.
Speakers include ophthalmologist Dr. W. Benton Boone (Pomona 1962); Louise Bryson, chair emerita of the board of trustees for the J. Paul Getty Trust, a Segerstrom Center for the Arts board member, and a member of The Huntington Library’s Board of Governors; retired justice Halim Dhanidina, the first Muslim judge in California history, the first South Asian American appellate justice in California, and the first Muslim appellate level judge in the U.S.; and former Pomona College president David Oxtoby.
