Claremont Lewis Museum of Art unveils two new exhibits Saturday

Two new Claremont Lewis Museum of Art exhibits, “Home in Aztlán: The Garcia Collection of Chicanx Art,” and “One of Your Girls or Your Homies: Tan Jazz Mont,” are spotlighting the works of the Hispanic community through Sunday, March 23, 2025, at 200 W. First St., Claremont.

The shows open Saturday, December 7, at a 5 p.m. member preview before opening up to the public at 6 for the monthly Claremont Art Walk. Homero Chavez y Una Noche will provide musical accompaniment.

“Home in Aztlán: The Garcia Collection of Chicanx Art” showcases works — most from the home of longtime Claremont residents Frank and Cathy Garcia — by pivotal Chicanx artists Carlos Almaraz, Guillermo Bejarano, David Botello, Paul Botello, David Flury, Margaret Garcia, Linda Garcia-Dahle, Sandy Garcia, Wayne Healy, Jose Lozano, Gilbert “Magu” Luján, Glugio “Gronk” Nicandro, Sergio Rebia, Frank Romero, John Valadez, Jaime “Germs” Zacarias and Marco Zamora.

“One of Your Girls or Your Homies: Tan Jazz Mont,” paintings and sculpture by queer artist Tan Jazz Mont, “will present at the intersection of autobiography, social commentary, and abstraction,” according to a press release.
