Happy September! This month commemorates Labor Day (9/6), Patriot Day (9/11), Grandparents’ Day (9/12), and Native American Day (9/24).
Staff are available at the Joslyn Center to answer questions Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. by calling (909) 399-5488 or emailing joslyncenter@ci.claremont.ca.us.
The Claremont Senior Program office and activities will be closed on Monday, September 6 in observance of Labor Day.
The Claremont Senior Program provides boxed lunches to-go for adults 60+ on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. in front of the Joslyn Center. The drive-through meal distribution is first-come, first-served, while supplies last. Any L.A. County resident 60+ is welcome to utilize this service.

Fall classes through Claremont Human Services

Mahjong Mondays — now resuming outdoors!
Join this weekly Mahjong group for fun drop-in play on the Joslyn Center’s patio on Monday mornings. Enjoy friendly competition, making new friends, and the fresh morning air! Those who are not fully vaccinated from COVID-19 must wear a mask when participating in this activity.

Women’s self-defense class
This is a comprehensive seminar covering practical and effective self-defense techniques geared towards women. Course content is based on the psychology of victim avoidance combined with effective grappling, striking, and escapes utilized in martial arts. Women will be empowered with the tools and knowledge to improve their awareness in order to avoid dangerous situations. Writing Workshop begins on Zoom
The Writing Workshop is currently accepting new members to join this group, which welcomes writers of all genres and experience levels who seek feedback on their work. Fellow writers in this safe space evaluate each other’s writing on elements such as organization, plot, setting, character development, point of view, and overall effectiveness. Due to COVID-19, the Writing Workshop currently meets virtually via Zoom every Wednesday at 9 a.m. If you are interested in joining this dynamic group, call the Joslyn Center at (909) 399-5488.
