The Claremont Stars Girls 2012 soccer team has won the Elite Cup division of the SoCal State Cup championship.
The young athletes triumphed in a 64-team, four-week tournament across Southern California. Both the semifinal and Sunday’s final at Silver Lakes Sports Complex in Eastvale were decided by dramatic penalty kick shootouts.
“I am proud of these kids,” said head coach Jordan Tapia. “I am proud of their fight, their willingness to battle, and most of all, proud of their spirit. They deserve this. We are changing the narrative for our girls’ program, and this is just the beginning.”
Six players on the team have been with it since its 2020 inception.
The victory follows Claremont Stars Soccer Club Boys 2015 winning the SoCal State Cup title in 2023, the team’s first victory in the tournament in more than 20 years. The Stars Boys 2012 team followed up by winning the championship in 2024.
