The Claremont Courier was recognized by the California News Publishers Association with 12 California Journalism Awards at a July 13 awards ceremony and dinner at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City. The awards honored the best of California journalism from 2023 and included nearly 3,000 entries from across the state.

The Courier won for the following work:

Notably, the Courier was competing against every newspaper and digital news outlet in the state in the community calendar and podcast categories, where it won third and fourth place awards, respectively. Calendar writer Andrew Alonzo and editorial designer and web producer Skylar Anderson won for community calendar, and podcast producer/editor Matt Weinberger and editor Mick Rhodes won for the August 25 podcast, “Sins of the father: a complicated legacy.”

The raft of awards follows a Courier record 19 wins — including five first place awards — in 2021, and nine more with three firsts in 2022.
