Election update: state, county races and measures

U.S. Senate

After 23 years in the House of Representatives, Adam Schiff has been elected to the U.S. Senate. The 64-year-old Democrat has won both of his races against political newcomer Steve Garvey — to finish out Laphonza Butler’s term through January 3, 2025, and the full term contest through 2031. Schiff was well in front of Garvey, with 1,245,221 votes, or 65% of those cast.

U.S. House of Representatives 28th District

Democrat Judy Chu appears to be cruising to a win against April Verlato in the race for the Claremont inclusive 28thDistrict of the U.S. House of Representatives. With 197,513 votes against Verlato’s 52,212.

California State Assembly District 41

The race between Democrat John Harabedian and Republican Michelle Del Rosario Martinez for California State Assembly District 41, which includes Claremont, also appears to be a runaway, with Harabedian in front 65% to 35%, 67,731 to 35,778.

 

LA County District Attorney

Incumbent LA County District Attorney George Gascón is losing big to Nathan Hochman, with the challenger ahead 62% to 38%, 1,106,161 to 690,113.

  • Measure 3: Yes in front with 1,203,188 votes or 65% , no trailing with 655,889 or 35%.
  • Measure 4: Yes in front with 1,152,186 votes or 62% , yes trailing with 712,827 or 38%.
  • Measure 5: No in front with 947,914 votes or 51% , yes trailing with 896,188 or 49%.
  • Measure 6: Yes in front with 945,737 votes or 52% , no trailing with 868,403 or 48%,
  • Measure 32: Yes in front with 972,275 votes or 52% , no trailing with 903,313 or 48%.
  • Measure 33: No in front with 1,089,989 votes or 59% , yes trailing with 768,445 or 41%.
  • Measure 34: No in front with 952,698 votes or 53% , yes trailing with 847,495 or 47%.
  • Measure 35: Yes in front with 1,202,538 votes or 65% , no trailing with 642,420 or 35%.
  • Measure 36: Yes in front with 1,248,084 votes or 67% , no trailing with 616,22 or 33%.
