Friday, August 2

  • Upland Chamber of Commerce’s 7 a.m. networking breakfast event at Landecena Community Building, 1325 San Bernardino Rd., Upland, is $23 for members, $28 for non-members. RSVP at web.uplandchamber.org/events.

 

 

  • Benefit the Friends of the Claremont Library by purchasing a half priced book or other item through August on the burgundy shelves at Claremont Helen Renwick Library, 208 N. Harvard Ave. Library hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, noon to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

 

 

 

 

  • Rancho Cucamonga’s IncredAbles Friday Night Fun Club invites special needs children ages 8 and up to its Lego Steampunk Academy at 11200 Base Line Road starting at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $6 per child at cityofrc.us/events.

  • Admission is waived at Claremont Lewis Museum of Art, 200 W. First St., on the first Sunday of each month from noon to 4 p.m. Children’s activities are led by students of the museum’s Project ARTstART program.

 

  • The Jazz Doctors play this week’s free 2 to 5 p.m. show at College Center, 665 E. Foothill Blvd., Claremont. Upcoming performers are at jazzatcollegecenter.com.

  • A veterans service officer provides free assistance to veterans and families from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at La Verne Community Center, 3680 D St., every Monday. Visit cityoflaverne.org for info.

 

  • In preparation for its reopening, Economy Shop will accept donations of art, CDs, records, adult clothing, houseware, small rugs, handbags, jewelry, books and shoes Mondays and Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. at 325 First St., Claremont. The nonprofit thrift store is set to reopen Wednesday, August 21.

 

  • Sports medicine professionals will offer physicals to student athletes from 5 to 7 p.m. today and August 12, at Casa Colina’s Coliseum Sports Medicine and Orthopedics Outpatient Center, 255 E. Bonita Ave., Building 1C, Pomona. Participants must bring their school’s pre-participation physical form and $50 cash or a credit card. Appointments can be scheduled at casacolina.org/events.   • Seniors with Get Walking Claremont meet at 8 a.m. Tuesdays at Shelton Park on the corner of Bonita and Harvard avenues for a walk in the Village and the Claremont Colleges. Arrive 15 minutes early to sign in and hear announcements.

 

  • The City of Upland hosts its free and open to the public 3 to 6 p.m. National Night Out event at the Gibson Senior Center, 250 N. Third Ave.

 

 

  • La Verne Police Department’s annual National Night Out celebration at Las Flores Park, 3175 Bolling Ave., runs from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

 

  • Claremont’s National Night Out, with the Claremont Police Department and community groups, runs from 6 to 9 p.m. at Joāt Park, at the corner of Indian Hill Boulevard and Scripps Drive. A screening of and sing-along to “Frozen” (2013) will cap festivities at dusk.

 

  • A free and public 6 to 8 p.m. National Night Out event with family-friendly games, music, vendors, and vehicle displays takes place at 400 Civic Center Plaza, Pomona.

 

  • Claremont musician/songwriter turned screenwriter/director Dimitri Coats’ debut film, “Free LSD,” screens at 7:30 p.m. at the Laemmle Claremont 5 theater, 450 W. Second St. A Q&A with Coats and Keith Morris, who stars in the film, will follow, moderated by Claremont musician, songwriter, and author Dennis Callaci.   • On the first Wednesday of the month from 4 to 7 p.m., the National Hot Rod Association Motorsports Museum, 1101 W.
