Friday, November 22

  • The Kiwanis Club of Claremont’s annual pop-up See’s Candies store at the former Hibbard Auto Center, 191 S. Indian Hill Blvd., is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through December 24, closed Thanksgiving. The club also has a booth at the Claremont Farmer’s and Artisans Market from 8 a.m. to noon on Sundays through December 22, and is selling online at kiwanis-seescandy.square.site.   • The Pomona College Orchestra will be joined by Robert deMaine, principal cellist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, for free and open to the public concerts at 8 p.m. tonight and at 3 p.m. November 24 at Bridges Hall of Music, 150 E. Saturday, November 23

  • The Farm at Fairplex hosts Fall in the Farm, a free and open to the public urban farmer experience featuring hands-on activities, displays, workshops, and agriculture and wellness vendors from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2118 N. White Ave., Pomona. A LifeStream Blood Bank blood drive runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Inland Valley Humane Society and S.P.C.A. hosts puppy adoptions from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parking is $6 in advance at fairplex.com/fall-in-the-farm or $10 at gate 12.

 

  • The Southern California Fiber Fair, a niche event for yarn enthusiasts, opens at 10 a.m. today and Sunday, November 24 at Fairplex, 1101 W. McKinley Ave., Pomona. Tickets are $15 at ocalfiberfair.com or$20 at the door. Children 11 and under are free.

  • Poets are invited to the Friends of the Claremont Library’s annual free 2 p.m. fourth Saturdays poetry open mic at the Claremont Helen Renwick Library, 208 N. Harvard Ave. Sign-ups open at 1:50 and poets of all ages and skill levels can read up to two pages or two poems.

 

  • The Claremont Village Wine Walk begins at 3:30 p.m. with food pairings and live music throughout the Village. Tickets are $55 and include 12 wine and food tastings.   • The free and open to the public switch-on ceremony for the 32nd annual Mission Inn  Festival of Lights begins at 5 p.m. at the intersection of Orange St. and Mission Inn Avenue in Riverside. A fireworks show will follow. The Festival of Lights will run through December 31, closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

 

  • Tellabration, a night of international storytelling at Folk Music Center, 220 Yale Ave., Claremont, begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 cash at the door.

 

  • The Claremont Concert Choir and Claremont Treble Singers host “Earth and Moon, Sun and Stars,” a free and public 7:30 p.m. concert featuring music by Stacey Gibbs, Alberto Grau, Hilary Tann, Eric Whitacre, and others, at Garrison Theater, 241 E. 10th St., Claremont.

 

  • Pomona College faculty and guest artists come together to perform the music of George Crumb during a free and open to the public 8 p.m. concert at Bridges Hall of Music, 150 E. Fourth St., Claremont.

  • Former United States House of Representative member David Dreier will present Utah Governor Spencer Cox with the Dreier Roundtable Civility Award during a free and open to the public 12:30 p.m. program at Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum, 385 E. Eighth St., Claremont, part of Claremont McKenna College’s 2024-2025 Athenaeum speaker series. A conversation about disagreement in American politics will follow.   • Children ages 2 to 5 can hunt for a turkey at Lewis Family Branch Library, 3850 E. Riverside Dr., Ontario, from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m.

 

 

 

Wednesday, November 27

  • Students from the Claremont Colleges begin their Thanksgiving recess today. Classes resume Monday, December 2.

 

  • City of Claremont offices will close at noon today in observance of Thanksgiving and will reopen Monday, December 2. Trash pick-up will also be delayed by one day.

 

  • Claremont Helen Renwick Library, 208 N. Harvard Ave., hosts a free and public noon to 4 p.m. Naloxone (Narcan) clinic. Learn more at visit.lacountylibrary.org/event.

 

  • Claremont Turkey Trot packet pickup and late registration runs from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Claremont Depot, 200 W. First St. Fees for the 1K start at $30 and 5K registration is $50. A price increase will occur Monday, November 25. Learn more at turkeytrot.co.

 

 

Thursday, November 28

  • Happy Thanksgiving from the Courier!

 

  • Claremont Sunrise Rotary’s 17th annual Turkey Trot kicks off at 7:30 a.m., followed by the 5K and children’s 1K at 8. Races begin in front of the Metrolink parking lot, 201 W. First St., and end near the Village. Fees for the 1K start at $30 and 5K registration is $50. A price increase will occur Monday, November 25. Sign up at turkeytrot.co.

 

 

Friday, November 29

  • It’s Black Friday, which is considered the official start of the holiday shopping season. In observance, California Botanic Garden, 1500 N. College Ave., Claremont, hosts Green Friday, with free admission from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. RSVP at calbg.org. Gardener Krista Von Stetten leads a free half-hour planting workshop at 1 p.m. RSVP at calbg.org.

 

  • Tickets are $35 for the American Museum of Ceramic Art’s 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. pottery workshops, Black FriGlaze, at 399 N. Garey Ave., Pomona. Admission includes one bisque piece, or ceramic material that has been fired once. RSVP at amoca.org/events.
