High school sports round-up: week of August 18, 2023

Claremont High School

Football

Claremont begins its nonleague season this Friday at home against Diamond Ranch, followed by Troy Friday, August 25, also at home. Kickoffs are set for 7 p.m.

Boys and girls cross-country

Both teams open their seasons at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 2 at the ASICS Cool Breeze Invitational at the Fairplex in Pomona.

Girls tennis

The team hosts Foothill Thursday, August 31 at 3:15 p.m. in a  nonleague matchup.

Girls volleyball (1-0)

On Wednesday, the Wolfpack hosted South Hills and won 3-1. The team was back in action after press time Thursday at home against West Covina. Upland visits at 5 p.m. Friday, then Claremont is at St. Lucy’s at 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 22 before hosting Arcadia at 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 23.

Girls golf

CHS hosted Los Osos after press time Thursday at Marshall Canyon Golf Course in La Verne for a scrimmage. The Pack returns to action at 3 p.m. Monday, August 21 at Bear Mountain Golf Course to face Big Bear in a nonleague match.

Boys water polo

Claremont is at Alta Loma at 4 p.m. Wednesday, September 27 for Palomares League action.

The Webb Schools

Football

Webb kicks off its campaign Saturday, August 26 at home versus Workman. La Puente then host the team at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 31.

Boys and girls cross-country

The Gauls are at the Fairplex in Pomona for the 2 p.m. ASICS Cool Breeze Invitational Saturday, September 2.

 

Girls tennis

Webb is at Edgewood Friday, August 25 for a 3:15 p.m. nonleague contest, followed by a 2 p.m. trip to Capistrano Valley Christian Tuesday, August 29.

Girls volleyball

The team welcomed Magnolia Science Academy Carson for a scrimmage after press time Thursday. The Gauls are back on the court at home against Orangewood Academy at 5 p.m. Thursday, August 24.

Girls golf

Webb heads to Newport Beach Golf Course at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, August 31 for a nonleague contest with Pacifica Christian.

Boys water polo

The Gauls first fall contest is against Mark Keppel at home Friday, August 25, at 3:30 p.m., followed by another 3:30 p.m. home match against Chaffey Tuesday, August 29.
