Juneteenth, on June 19, is a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in Texas who finally received word of President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation on June 19, 1865, more than two years after its issuance.

The day was first celebrated as a legal public holiday in 2021 when President Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act.

In observance of Juneteenth, on Monday, June 19 Claremont City Hall, the chamber of commerce office, the post office, Alexander Hughes Community Center, Joslyn Center, Blaisdell Senior Center, and city yard will be closed. Trash and sanitation services will also be delayed by one day this week. Normal hours will resume Tuesday, June 20. Call the city at (909) 399-5460 with any questions.
