The 33-year-old Jurupa Valley man charged with attempted murder in connection to a January 23 shooting in Claremont appeared March 26 before Judge Robert Serna in Pomona Superior Court for a preliminary hearing setting and bail review.

Erik William Guevara remains jailed in lieu of $7,075,000 bail.

Guevara is charged with three felony counts of attempted murder, each with enhancements pertaining to one or more serious/violent felony convictions and personal and intentional discharge of a firearm, and one felony count of being a felon in possession of a firearm with a one or more serious/violent felony convictions enhancement. Guevara pled not guilty to all charges on February 18.

The case stems from a January 23 shooting in the 600 block of Colgate Place that left two men with critical gunshot wounds. Neighbors said they saw a man checking for unlocked cars in the area prior to the gunfire, and that he found one in the driveway of a residence where the shooting took place. Two men are said to have emerged from the home and were shot when they confronted the man. Neighbors said they heard five to six shots before a third person emerged from the home and subdued the gunman until police arrived.

The LA County District Attorney’s office did not have an estimate on what the maximum sentence Guevara could face if convicted on all charges. He remains at Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles and is due back at Pomona Superior Court May 8.
