Swimming ends season with a trip to CIF meet
Claremont boys headed to the CIF swim meet on Saturday at Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Rancho Santa Margarita.
The four swimmers in the CIF meet include: sophomore Roman Savage, 100 fly and the 500 free; junior Zachary Martin, 100 free and 200 free; junior Mercer Weis, 200 individual medley, 100 breast; and junior Beau Ruffner, 100 back and 100 free. All four will also compete in the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay.
“We had five dual meets and have done pretty well. The boys varsity and junior varsity had four wins and only one loss the whole season,” Coach Lindsay Brown said.
The boys were undefeated in the first four meets defeating Colony, Ayala Alta Loma and Glendora, but lost to Bonita in the final meet.
“We were down a couple of boys that day,” Coach Brown said of the Bonita meet.
The girls finished their season 2-3 in league defeating Colony and Alta Loma, but falling to Ayala, Bonita and Glendora.
Junior Stella Neal, 100 breast, was a consideration for CIF but the cuts were really fast. “She is one of my top varsity girls,” Coach Brown said. Girls 200 free relay placed third at Palomares League championships.
Boys JV won Palomares League championships last week, while Weis earned the varsity MVP and all four top boys won their events. Weis, Martin and Savage all tied for top points.
“CIF will probably be their last stop for this season but we have next season when we will hopefully be able to go further,” Coach Brown said.
