Claremont police arrest man after online burglary sting
Claremont police arrested a suspected burglar after arranging to purchase some of the stolen goods online.
The initial burglary occurred between February 1 and 2, when a homeowner on the 600 block of Huron Drive discovered her home had been broken into, according to Lt. Mike Ciszek of the Claremont Police Department. Following the burglary, the victim discovered her stolen property, including a pair of earrings, was being sold online.
An undercover detective with the CPD arranged to meet with the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Brandon Peterson of Glendora, and purchased the earrings at a Home Depot in Glendora.
The officer then arranged another purchase with Mr. Peterson, which led to a U-Haul Self-Storage in Glendora. Mr. Peterson was arrested at the storage unit.
Following the arrest, detectives went to a residence in Glendora to recover additional stolen property from Mr. Peterson’s cousin, police said. At the end of the investigation, all of the property stolen from the Huron Drive home has been recovered.
Mr. Peterson was arrested and sent to CPD jail, where he was booked for burglary and possession of stolen property. His bail has been set at $50,000, and he is scheduled to appear in Pomona Superior Court on February 8.
Police are looking for additional victims. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Claremont Police Department at (909) 399-5411.
