Police catch Pomona man wanted in grandfather’s attempted murder

A Pomona man has been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of his grandfather, one week after he fled upstate.

Sammeon Christian Waller, 25, was located in Sacramento, where local police arrested him on Saturday, June 18, Pomona police said in a release. He is currently being held in Sacramento on a Pomona Police Department warrant, and arrangements are being made to bring Mr. Waller back to Los Angeles County.

Mr. Waller is accused in the severe beating of his grandfather, 82-year-old Robert McPherson, at Mr. McPherson’s home on the 2900 block of Gayridge Street in Pomona on Friday, June 9, police said. After he wasn’t seen or heard from in several days, police found Mr. McPherson lying on the ground bleeding and suffering from significant head trauma.

Pomona police said Mr. McPherson is currently “fighting for his life.”

Mr. McPherson’s van was also missing from the home, and was found impounded in Sacramento, leading police to Mr. Waller.

Mr. Waller is no stranger to Claremont, having been arrested in March at the Claremont Manor after police found drug paraphernalia in his laptop bag.
