Cool zones open throughout Claremont
As temperatures across the southland soar into the triple digits, Claremont is opening four cool zones throughout the city to those who are looking to beat the heat.
The cool zones will be open from Tuesday, June 20 to Thursday, June 22, according to city spokesperson Bevin Handel. THe cool zones could remain open on Friday if the searing temperatures persist.
The Alexander Hughes Community Center will be open on Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Blaisdell Senior Center will open its cool zone on Monday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Claremont Library will be open for refuge on Monday and Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Joslyn Senior Center will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
If you are planning to be outside in the heat, the city recommends avoiding the sun from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., reducing physical activity and wearing protective clothing such as a hat a lightweight, light-colored clothing, drinking plenty of fluids, using sunscreen and giving plenty of water and shade to your pets.
