For the upcoming fall sports season Claremont High School will be facing some new competition even though the Pack will remain in the Palomares League.

South Hills and Diamond Bar high schools petitioned the CIF to be placed in different leagues as part of the periodic reassessment of local schools, according to CHS athletic Director Mike Collins. The aim of the move is to keep the competition equitable.

Alta Loma and Colony high schools, which have been at the top of their leagues recently, will be joining the Palomares League. They were chosen due to physical proximity to the remaining Palomares league schools and because officials felt it was a good match.

The new league includes: Alta Loma, Ayala, Bonita, Claremont, Colony and Glendora.

Claremont teams have claimed numerous league titles over the past few years, most notably in cross-country, track, tennis, soccer and water polo.

“Overall, we are one of the strongest schools in the league,” Mr. Collins said on Wednesday.

The move will end the longtime boys tennis rivalry between Claremont and Diamond Bar. Coincidentally, the exit of the Brahmas may give boys golf a shot at a championship, since Diamond Bar has been unbeatable for years.
