Free tours for special origami exhibit at RSABG

Claremont residents with valid ID get in free Sunday, November 11 to Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, 1500 N. College Ave., Claremont, as the treasured horticulture shrine begins its Second Sundays promotion with a celebration of Origami Day, an international holiday in honor of the art form.

Second Sundays also serve to highlight its ongoing Origami in the Garden 2 exhibit. On Sunday everyone is invited to enjoy free family folding stations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where children and families can fold their own origami creations. Stations are hosted by the Pacific Ocean Paperfolders.

At 11 a.m. folks can participate in a free docent tour at the admission kiosk. From 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. award-winning origami artist and author Joel Stern will show participants how he combines origami and storytelling into storigami, playful origami models that flap, collapse and expand, pop up and down, and twist and turn. Children younger than 8 will need an older person to help them make the origami. Participants should meet at Johnson Memorial Oval.

The monthly free Second Sunday for Claremonters will continue through March. Guests must show driver’s license or valid ID with Claremont zip code for free entry.

The Garden is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. More info is available at rsabg.org, (909) 625-8767, or via email at info@rsabg.org.
