The city of Claremont reopened city hall, the Hughes Center the city yard and the police station on an appointment-only basis.

“City facilities will reopen to the public on Monday, May 18 by appointment only. Appointments will be required to conduct business inside City Hall, including for the purposes of submitting and reviewing plans, obtaining permits, or applying for a business license. Walk-ins will not be accepted at this time,” the city said in a statement.

Visitors must wear some type of facial covering and adhere to social distancing procedures, and each facility will have a maximum number of people allowed in at one time.

At city hall, three members of the public will be allowed in the lobby at any time. However, if someone makes an appointment with the city manger that person can be accommodated even if there are three people in the lobby because the city manager has a separate office. The Hughes Center will allow two people inside at a time, while the police station and city yard will only allow one. A couple who reside in the same house can enter the police station or the city yard together.

Facilities that remain closed are the Joslyn and Blaisdell senior centers as well as the YAC and TAC.

One can now make an appointment for the following services: permits and plan checks; building permits; public records requests; business licenses; cashier; accounts payable and receivable and parking permits.

The police station lobby will be open by appointment for police reports and the impound lot.

Services that will still be done by phone or online: simple building permits; business license renewals; sanitation requests or bills; information requests.

Commission and council meetings will continue to be held via the Zoom meeting app.
