The Gypsy Sisters are back in town, just in time for Christmas

Just in time for browsing, buying, enjoying the Christmas season and seeing what creative artists are doing, the Gypsy Sisters will open their show this Friday, December 7 from 4 to 9 p.m. in the basement of the Claremont United Church of Christ. ?Weekend hours continue on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Twenty-nine Gypsy artists will be displaying a wide variety of original and handmade items including quilts, boxes, jewelry, pottery, prints, paintings, dolls, fiber arts, metal work, paper craft, lamps, gourds, photographs and a large array of small, thoughtful and delightful gifts suitable for stocking stuffers and more.

UCC is located on Harrison Avenue between Harvard and Yale, in the Village. Look for the flags and follow the signs. The Gyspies say, “Come for the fun and the season’s cheer.”

Petterson Museum Friends host Winter Holiday tea

A Winterfest Holiday Tea will be held Friday, December 7 from 3 to 5 p.m at the Petterson Museum of Intercultural Art, located at Pilgrim Place.

The public is invited to this annual open house, sponsored by the Museum Friends and featuring holiday refreshments, an exhibit (“The Madonna”) featuring paintings, sketches and sculptures depicting the Madonna from around the world and music provided by classical guitarists Michael Ryan and Kevin Soderlund.

With 3 galleries and a 2000-volume library, the Petterson Museum contains a collection of fine art, folk art and material culture covering many centuries of human history. Regular museum hours are Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Claremont Concert and Chamber Choirs celebrate the season with performance

The Holiday Choral Concert, featuring the Claremont Concert Choir and The Chamber Choir, begins at 8 p.m. on Friday, December 7, with Charles Kamm, Scripps College associate professor of music,  conducting. Performances will include excerpts from Handel’s Messiah and other works, including holiday favorites. The event will be held at the Claremont United Church of Christ Congregational, 233 Harrison Ave. The performance is free and open to the public.

Claremont resident earns Eagle Scout rank

Cody Richard Schock was honored with the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to scouts, the Eagle Scout rank, at a recent Eagle Scout Court of Honor held at Chaparral Elementary School.

For his Eagle Scout project, Cody designed kindergarten cubbies, a bookshelf and a craft center for a classroom at Chaparral where he attended many years ago. The project included raising $1100 and overseeing over 20 volunteers with over 208 combined project hours.

A member of Claremont’s Boy Scout Troop 407 since October 2005, Cody is currently serving the troop as an assistant scoutmaster.

In addition to scouts, Cody is enrolled at Chaffey Community College where he is studying to become an Emergency Medical Technician. He graduates this month with the goal of becoming a flight nurse/paramedic.

CHS Theater Dept. ‘Take a Seat’ campaign forges on

The CHS Theater Department’s “Take a Seat” campaign reports that more than 90 of the 226 available seats have been purchased thus far.
