Planning commission to review new condo complex

The Claremont Planning Commission will be presented Tuesday, January 15 with the tract map for a proposed condominium complex at Base Line Road and Mountain Avenue. The review begins at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, 225 W. Second St.

D.R. Horton, a Texas-based home building company, purchased the 4.2-acre property from the Claremont Unified School District last March for a reported $6.2 million. The land is located adjacent to the CUSD maintenance yard, the 210 Freeway and a series of single-family homes. The site currently contains CUSD administrative offices, which will need to be demolished before the new project begins.

The proposed new development will be comprised of 54 detached condominiums, a lower amount than the 61-unit maximum allowed by the land’s zoning. The 2-story condominiums with private backyard and attached garage will be sold at market price except for 8 to be sold as moderate-income housing. The condos will be designed in 3 different plans, ranging from 3 to 4 bedrooms.

This is the third time this development is being brought before Claremont commissions. Both the Architectural and the Traffic and Transportation Commission have reviewed the proposal. The planning commission’s review will begin at 7 p.m. For more on the development or Tuesday night’s meeting, view the full agenda at www.ci.claremont.ca.us.
