Firefighters save most of Mt. Baldy Village from Bridge Fire

Wednesday was the critical day for firefighters to save Mt. Baldy Village from the Bridge Fire. By setting up a series of perimeters west of the village, most of the small town that had not seen a fire in a century was saved. The fire has burned 51,167 acres as of Thursday morning. By late Wednesday afternoon, the landscape along Glendora Ridge Road west of Mt. Baldy Village was almost totally burned, but the Village was mostly saved.

Mt. Baldy Road is blocked at Shinn Road and the California Highway Patrol isn’t allowing the public any further. Authorities have asked the public to stay away until further notice.

The Bridge Fire burned right up to Mt. Baldy Road but did not jump it. U.S. Forest Service crews helped local firefighters dash flames along the road.

Tired, dirty firefighters relaxed wherever they could once it was determined this section of the Bridge Fire near Baldy Village was almost under control.

The lower San Gabriel Mountains looked like a moonscape as the Bridge Fire burned everything west of Mt. Baldy Road.

The mountainsides along the Glendora Ridge Road were burned for miles as the fire headed east toward Mt. Baldy Village.

Given the remote location of the Bridge Fire above and west of Mt. Baldy Village, helicopters filled the air to drop water on the mountainside.
