Additional CLL All-Stars close out seasons

Claremont Little League’s headline-grabbing, undefeated 12U all-star team might get the majority of the attention, but six other city teams have also been vying for postseason glory. All have since been eliminated from their respective tournaments.

Here’s a recap of their postseason runs:

The 8-and-under team opened with two wins, 14-4 over San Dimas on June 20 and 8-7 against La Verne June 22. Glendora National then beat them 10-9 on June 25, and an 8-3 loss to La Verne June 29 sent the team home for the season with a 2-2 record.

After an 8-1 loss to La Verne on June 24, CLL’s nine-year-olds won three straight: 20-4 over Pomona’s Ted Greene team on June 26, 8-6 against Glendora American June 28, and a 13-2 thrashing of Glendora National on July 2. The team then lost once more to La Verne, 12-2, in the D20 championship game on July 8, capping their season at 3-2.

The 10-and-under team’s Achille’s heel was Glendora American. The Claremont all-stars faced them in their opening match on June 22, losing, 6-1, dropping them into the loser’s bracket. Claremont then dispatched La Verne, 13-6, on June 24, and Glendora National, 9-2, June 27. The June 29 D20 championship rematch with Glendora American resulted in a 13-6 loss, ending the team’s season at 2-2.

The 11-and-unders began with a 7-1 win over La Verne on June 22, followed by a 20-0 blowout of Ted Greene June 26, and an 11-6 victory over Glendora American July 2. La Verne then edged CLL, 3-2, in the would-be July 6 championship game, handing the team its first lost in the double-elimination tournament. Claremont then bounced back July 9, shutting out La Verne, 6-0, to send them to sectionals. Despite a 13-3 loss to Upland Foothill in the opening game on July 13, CLL clawed its way back to championship contention after easily besting West Covina American, 12-1, on July 14, then Northeast Los Angeles, 13-6 on Monday. Claremont lost, 2-1, to Upland Foothill on Tuesday in the section three championship to end their season at 6-3.

Claremont’s 13-and-under intermediate squad began with a lopsided 17-2 win over San Dimas on June 19, then followed it up with another emphatic 25-3 victory over San Dimas on June 21 to claim the district 20 title. The red hot team then shutout District 19 champs West Covina American, 19-0, in the first round of section 3 play on June 25. Their dominant postseason run then took a turn with a 9-0 loss to Upland National on June 26. The team bounced back the following day to clobber West Covina American again, 18-8, before Upland National put an end to their season in the section three championship game, 7-1, on June 28. The team ended postseason at 4-2.

The 14-and-under juniors marched all the way to the D20 title, besting Pomona Ted Greene, 13-9, on June 24, San Dimas, 11-3 June 26, and Ted Greene again, 22-10, for the championship on June 28. In section 3 play, the team fell twice, losing to Baldwin Park National, 17-7, on July 1, and Upland National, 22-7, July 3, to finish their season at 3-2.
