CERT training coming in September

Training for Claremont’s Community Emergency Response Team begins in September at the Alexander Hughes Community Center, 1700 Danbury Rd., Claremont. Courses, led by CERT staff unless denoted otherwise, provide the general public basic training in safety and lifesaving skills in the event of disaster. Email dtrevino@ci.claremont.ca.us to enroll.

CERT organization and disaster preparedness begins September 11; fire safety and utility controls led by Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel follows September 13. A two-part disaster medical training runs September 18 and 20. September 25 features a light search and rescue course. Disaster psychology and terrorism training is set for September 27. All trainings are from 6 to 9 p.m.

Final review and drill take place from 9 a.m. to noon September 30. Students must complete all course hours to receive a certificate.

To join Claremont CERT, a branch of LACFD’s Community Emergency Response Team program, print out the application at ci.claremont.ca.us to submit to the Claremont Police Department.
