CGU centennial events abound in October

As the official 100th birthday of Claremont Graduate University draws near, the university will host a flurry of events in observance throughout October. Registration details for each event are listed at cgu.edu/events and 100.cgu.edu, unless otherwise noted.

Kicking things off is a free fall open house for prospective students from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 11 at DesCombes Quad, 160 E. 10th St.

Tours of CGU’s Drucker House Museum run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, October 12 as part of Claremont Heritage’s Home Tour. Tickets are $40-$50 at claremontheritage.bigcartel.com.

CGU’s Founders Day from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 14 includes a free and open to the public event at Harper Hall, 150 E. 10th St. Highlights include a tree planting ceremony, an exhibition featuring CGU materials from the last 100 years, and the CGU Giving Day online campaign.

Wednesday, October 15, students, faculty, alumni and community members will join CGU’s Student Senate for a centennial edition of its annual welcome back event, Ignite the Light, held from 4 to 7 p.m. at Drucker Institute, 1021 N. Dartmouth Ave.

At 2 p.m. Thursday, October 16, panelists Joshua Goode, Bryan Elliott, Victoria Sancho Lobis, John Neiuber, and David Shearer take part in a free and public discussion of CGU’s growth at the Garner House, 840 N. Indian Hill Blvd. Then from 5 to 6 p.m. CGU welcomes Jay Prag of the Drucker School of Management for the inaugural Claremont Lecture Lounge speaker series at Mozwell Claremont, 590 W. First St.

CGU’s 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, October 17 centennial summit includes a keynote address by Wesleyan University President Michael Roth, a roundtable with university presidents, panel discussions, and workshops at Garrison Theater, 231 E. 10th St.

Festivities wrap Saturday, October 18 with free community events throughout Claremont, including a noon to 2 p.m. concert at Bridges Hall of Music, 150 E. Fourth St. Tickets are $100 for the 4 to 8 p.m. centennial dinner at Honnold Mudd Library Lawn, 130 E. Ninth St.
