City begins 2024 reforestation, trees available

The City of Claremont Community Services Department will begin planting trees in November for its 2024 reforestation program.

The city will plant 15-gallon sized trees free of charge. Those who would like a new street tree can email trees@ci.claremont.ca.us, after which city staff will determine if the proposed site is viable. Factors considered when determining a site include adequate tree growth space and possible interference with utility lines, sufficient distance for traffic clearance, and maintenance resources.

A 24-inch-box tree is $432.40. Property owners may choose from a street tree list at ci.claremont.ca.us/trees. More information about each species is at selectree.calpoly.edu.

The city will water each newly planted tree weekly for 90 days, after which a water bag will be installed and property owners will be responsible for watering. All new trees will receive a pruning by the city after one year.

More information is at ci.claremont.ca.us.
