City to receive nearly $152K from opioid settlements

During the July 23 Claremont City Council meeting, the council unanimously okayed a consent calendar item which allowed the city to “enter into a settlement agreement for pending settlement in national prescription opiate litigation.”

“In 2021, the City of Claremont entered into participation agreements with two of the national settlements referred to as the Distributor Settlement and the Janssen Settlement that resolved opioid litigation,” City Manager Adam Pirrie wrote in an email to the Courier. “The City of Claremont is expected to receive a total of $143,031 from these two settlements over 18 years. To date, we have received $26,210. Additionally, on July 23, 2024, the City Council authorized the City Manager to enter into an agreement on the Kroger settlement which is estimated to result in another $8,559 to be distributed over 11 years to the City.”
