CLMA opens ‘Phil Dike: A Bird’s Eye View’

A free and public opening reception for Claremont Lewis Museum of Art’s fall exhibit, “Phil Dike: A Bird’s Eye View,” takes place at 6 p.m. Saturday, September 7 at 200 W. First St.

The exhibit highlights the work of the late Redlands native known for abstract works that display a high vantage point of objects and locations. Dike attended the Chouinard School of Art in Los Angeles, known today as CalArts, the Art Students League of New York, spent time in George Luks’ studio, and studied in France at the American Academy of Fontainebleau. In 1950, Dike became a faculty member at Scripps College and Claremont Graduate University. He lived in both Claremont and Cambria until his passing in 1990.

The event coincides with the Claremont Art Walk. The exhibition will be on view through November 24 from noon to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Admission is free on Friday, during the Claremont Art Walks, and on the first Sunday of the month. Admissions is $5 outside of those dates.
