CPD awarded $147,000 grant for traffic safety

The California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, recently awarded a $147,000 grant to the Claremont Police Department to fund traffic enforcement efforts and education programs meant to reduce roadway injuries and deaths.

Programs and efforts funded by the grant include additional DUI checkpoints and DUI-focused patrols; high-visibility distracted driving enforcement; operations focused on pedestrian safety; enforcement initiatives meant to focus high priority crash causing violations such as speeding, failure to yield, stop sign and/or red-light running, and improper turning or lane changes; community outreach on traffic safety issues; collaborative efforts with surrounding agencies; and officer training and/or recertification.

“We are grateful to receive this grant, which will strengthen our traffic enforcement efforts and improve road safety,” said Claremont Police Chief Aaron Fate. “By increasing enforcement of traffic laws and focusing on high-risk areas, we aim to reduce dangerous driving behaviors, prevent crashes, and make our roads safer for everyone.”

The grant program runs through September 2025.
