CPD gets traffic safety enforcement grant

The Claremont Police Department recently received a $115,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to support enforcement and education efforts.

CPD said the grant will support enforcement operations pertaining to distracted driving, impaired driving, dangerous driver behaviors that threaten pedestrian safety, and top crash-causing violations such as speeding, failure to yield, stop sign and/or red-light running, and improper turning or lane change. It will also go toward community presentations on distracted and impaired driving, speeding, and bicycle and pedestrian safety, and officer training and recertification in field sobriety testing, advanced roadside impaired driving enforcement, and a drug recognition expert.

“We are grateful to receive this grant, which will strengthen our traffic enforcement

efforts and improve road safety,” Claremont Police Chief Mike Ciszek wrote in a statement. “Through a combination of education and enforcement efforts, our goal is to reduce dangerous driving behaviors, prevent crashes, and make our roads safer for everyone.”
